El día de hoy, 8 de junio la caravana humanitaria “Bety Cariño y Jyri Jaakkola” se vio obligada a no ingresar a San Juan Copala y dejar las más de 30 toneladas de ayuda humanitaria y víveres que se pretendían entregar porque los gobiernos estatal y federal en complicidad con ese grupo de criminales que mantiene el cerco paramilitar sobre San Juan Copala tendieron un nuevo cerco para impedir que la misión cumpliera su objetivo.

Second Report.
The human rights convoy is about to go into the community of Agua Fria, a community belonging to the autonomous municipality of San Juan Copala, and the Oaxaca State Attorney General, Maria de la Luz Candelaria Chiñas, has announced she wants to establish negotiations between the coordinator of the PRD, Alejandro Encinas Rodriguez, however the decision is not partisan.

La caravana esta por entran a la comunidad de agua fría, una comunidad del municipio autónomo de San Juan Cópala, y la Procuradora General de (IN) Justicia del Estado de Oaxaca, María de la Luz Candelaria Chiñas, ha dicho que quiere establecer una negociación con el coordinador del PRD, Alejandro Encinas Rodríguez, sin embargo no es partidista la decisión.

La caravana que salió de Oaxaca partió de la iglesia de Xochimilco a las 5 am aproximadamente con tres vehículos particulares, 1 autobús de 49 personas, así como 1 camión de víveres que incluían carbón, enlatados de comida, ropa, granos de maíz, frijol y arroz.

First report.
The convoy that departed from Oaxaca from the church of Xochimico at 5am left with approximately three private vehicles, a 49 person bus, as well as with 1 truck full of basic necessities including coal, canned food, clothing, corn, beans and rice.

Reporte desde Juxtlahuaca sobre la situación. Reportan que desde el domingo se intensifico el patrullaje en Juxtlahuaca. A partir de ayer lunes la UBISORT empezo a coonvocar a mujeres y niños con el fin de que la caravana no pasara. Las mujeres y niños están acompañados por hombres.

A: Yes, the National Independent Teacher’s Front.
MM: Can you tell me why you decided to join the convoy?
A: Well because, we as an organization have known of the struggle of the Triquis for many years. The Triquis are a people that have resisted, they have resisted for more than 500 years. In the 70s, and 80s, a member of our organization was one of the promoters of the MULT (Triqui Unification and Struggle Movement) who was riddled with 50 bullets. So we have been very close to the struggles of our Triqui brothers. We are aware of the conditions under which they are right now, as they fought for autonomy, and achieve it in 2006. That isn’t favorable for the State; it is not favorable for the system. That is why they are being attacked and are now surrounded by paramilitaries. We know that the paramilitaries are a way to subdue the people. It is a form of clandestine government, of how to subdue the people and take away their wealth. That is what the Triquis have not allowed, of being robbed of their land and natural resources. That is why they are being subdued now. On June 8, anti-authoritarians and human rights activists are trying to break the paramilitary blockade of the autonomous municipality of San Juan Copala in Oaxaca. We need to support them to help avoid another massacre.
For this reason, we are calling for a day of solidarity actions the day before, on June 7, to create pressure and prevent another massacre. The paramilitaries work on behalf of the Mexican government and Mexican and international corporations invested in the area. They do the dirty work that provides the basis for state control and commercial investment.

URGENT: JUNE 8TH HUMANITARIAN CARAVAN WILL ATTEMPT TO ENTER COPALA
On Abril 27, 2010 a humanitarian caravan en route to the Autonomous Municipality of San Juan Copala was ambushed by heavily armed paramilitaries belonging to the PRI-funded group UBISORT, murdering Oaxacan activist Bety Cariño and Finnish activist Jyri Jakkola as well as injuring several others. Police refused to rescue injured human rights workers who were trapped in the area following the ambush. Despite national and international pressure demanding a thorough investigation no one has been held accountable for the murders of Cariño and Jakkola. Oaxacan governor Ulises Ruiz went so far as to blame the victims for their fate, questioning the migratory status of the international human rights observers and questioning the “real” reason outsiders were in “a community were there are problems.” This attack on an international human rights convoy set a disturbing precedent, as this was the first of its kind in Mexico.

Since the murders of Cariño and Jakkola, the violence in Copala has continued. A few days after the attack several women and children from the community were kidnapped by paramilitaries as they attempted to go into the nearest town for food and essential supplies. On may 20th Timoteo Alejandro Ramírez, a leader in the Autonomous Municipality, and his wife Cleriberta Castro were murdered in the home by hit men believed to have been contracted by UBISORT. Again, this aggression and the continued blockade against San Juan Copala by UBISORT have gone completely uncontested by the state.
As such, a second humanitarian caravan will attempt to enter Copala on Tuesday June 8th. The Caravana Humanitaria Bety Cariño y Jyri Jakkola will leave the zócalo of Mexico City at 6pm, Monday June 7th and from the church of Xochimilco in Oaxaca Tuesday at 4am. Governor Ruiz has refused to guarantee the safe passage of the caravan, and as of Sunday June 6th the community has reported that UBISORT blocked the roads leading to Copala using heavy machinery. We ask that you remain vigilant of the fact that this caravan will be attempting to enter Copala June 8th and of the fact that it too may very well be attacked. Contact the Mexican consulate in your area (http://www.mexonline.com/consulate.htm) and let them know you expect that human rights observers be allowed to carry out their work without being violently attacked! Please keep yourself informed by checking this and other blogs and internet sources. You can check this blog periodically for updates as members of the caravan will be sending updates over the next couple of days.

A: Si, del Frente Magisterial Independiente Nacional.
MM: Y me puedes decir por que decidiste integrarte al la caravana?
A: Bueno pues, nosotros como organización también conocemos la lucha de los Triquis, desde hace muchos años. Los Triquis es un pueblo que ha resistido, ha dado una resistencia de mas de 500 años. En los 70, en los 80, un integrante de nuestra organización fue uno de los impulsores del MULT (Movimiento de Unificación y Lucha Triqui) que también fue acribillado por 50 balazos. Entonces nosotros hemos estado de cerca a la lucha de nuestros hermanos Triquis. Y sabemos de las condiciones en que ahorita esta, como ha luchado por su autonomía en ese pueblo, y en el 2006 lo logran. Eso no le conviene al estado, al sistema no le conviene. Es por eso que están agredidos y ahorita están cercados por paramilitares. Nosotros estamos concientes de que los paramilitares son una forma de someter al pueblo. Es una forma de gobierno clandestino. De cómo puede someter al pueblo y quitarles sus riquezas. Lo que los Triquis no han permitido. Que sean rebatados de sus tierras, de sus recursos naturales. Por eso están sometidos ahorita. Ellos, cuando han querido sacar su lucha

A todos ustedes quienes con su calor, solidaridad, presencia, denuncias, nos dicen y dictan el camino que tenemos y que debemos seguir, a quienes han sufrido en su corazón el dolor de arrebatarles a un ser querido, queremos decirles que no existen palabras para poder expresar la rabia que sentimos, la imponencia, la angustia y la desesperación de no poder estar al lado de quien era la compañera, la madre de dos hijos, la dirigenta, la amiga, la hermana, EL AMOR DE NUESTRA VIDA cuando el odio, la saña y la ira le arrebato la vida, por esta lucha que decidimos caminar durante 14 años , a todos ustedes y a nombre de mis hijos gracias.
Nuevamente como en el 2006 el Estado terrorista, asesino y represor de Ulises Ruiz busca demostrar su fuerza, imponer su política y demostrar su odio contra lo que no se le parece, no se subordina, no se doblega y además es incorruptible, porque nace desde abajo y lleno de vida, porque se construye con la fraternidad de quienes hemos decidido caminar hacia la construcción de un mundo diferente, un mundo más humano, donde florezca la tierra y los sueños que sembramos día a día, Bety o mejor dicho Beto como su padre le decía o como verdaderamente se llamaba, Alberta Cariño Trujillo, ¡No ha muerto! Tu palabra crece en darle voz de los que no tenían y en ser hermana de las mujeres de copala, de la mixteca, y del mundo, por tu ser de mujer, tu determinación de hermana y de esta lucha autonómica que es esencia de madre resisten contra los odios, ira y desprecio de los paramilitares de la UBISORT que dirigen Rufino Juárez y Antonio Cruz.

A un mes del brutal crimen de Alberta Cariño Trujillo y Jyri Antero Jaakkola, y después de que fueran privadas ilegalmente de su libertad un grupo de mujeres y niños, grupos defensores y observadores de derechos humanos han escuchado nuestra palabra de solicitud de auxilio y han decidido llevar una esperanza de alimentación, paz y justicia a San Juan Copala.
El silencio cruel del gobierno del Estado sólo deja al descubierto a quien se sabe corresponsable de este cobarde suceso; es esta permanente impunidad, el motivo principal que impulsa a quienes el día 20 de mayo empujan la mano de quien ejecuta la orden del poderoso para seguir enlutando la vida de nuestras comunidades al asesinar a nuestro compañero Timoteo Alejandro Ramírez y a su esposa Tleriberta Castro Aguilar.
Fue Timoteo sin duda quien con su palabra y ejemplo despertó la conciencia de muchos triquis que en el 2006 decidieron dejar las organizaciones en las que militaban y recuperar su capacidad de dirigir sus destinos propios y los de sus comunidades. Es así como nace el movimiento de unificación y lucha triqui independiente. Misma organización que el 20 de enero del 2007 plasma su primer logro de unidad en la creación del municipio autónomo de San Juan Copala. Todo este proceso no se entendería sin la atinada dirección de Timoteo, quien tuvo siempre como máxima cualidad el amor por su pueblo.

El día martes 8 de junio del año 2010 quedará registrado en la historia de las comunidades indígenas de Oaxaca, recordando que la solidaridad desinteresada es la máxima expresión de ternura y amor en el ser humano.
Esta fecha también será recordada porque se podrá comprobar que aun en medio de la diferencia podemos caminar juntos para mostrar que hay todavía quizá una “última” esperanza en poder construir un mundo más justo y más humano; que seguramente empezará cuando el que mande, mande obedeciendo.
Agradecemos a todos esa ternura y ese amor. A los que caminan para conocer la propuesta política de San Juan Copala, y sabemos que los que acompañan esta caravana sabrán respetar nuestro proyecto de autonomía; que estamos seguros es el camino hacia una vida de justicia y dignidad.
